[Staphylococcus aureus methicillin-resistant community acquired neonatal orbital cellulitis].
Orbital cellulitis typically occurs in older children, but it can occasionally affect infants and neonates. Staphylococcus aureus is the main pathogen isolated. Outcome depends on an adequate initial approach. We report three neonates with orbital cellulitis caused by community-associated MRSA.
متن کاملNasal Colonization Rate of Community and Hospital Acquired Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus in Hospitalized Children
Background & Aims: Prevalence of community and hospital acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection is increasing. The primary reservoir is the anterior nares; and nasal carriage is a risk factor for infection in a variety of populations. Infection due to hospital-acquired colonization is different from community acquired in clinical manifestations and antibiotics susc...
متن کاملPrevalence of resistance and toxin genes in community-acquired and hospital-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates
Objective(s): Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the major health hazards and became of greater public health concern since the emergence of community-acquired MRSA. This work aimed to study the prevalence of mecA, femA, femB, lukS-PV, lukF-PV (PVL), intI, and intII genes among community-acquired (CA) hospital-acquired (HA) MRSA to increase vi...
متن کاملCommunity-Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Orbital Cellulitis in a Neonate. Staphylococcus Aureus Orbital Cellulitis in a Neonate
Background Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is a serious cause of morbidity and mortality in hospital environment, but also, lately, in the community. This case report is, in our knowledge, the first detailed description of a community aquires Methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus ST80 orbital cellulitis in a previously healthy neonate. Possible predisposing factors of microbial...

Extension of an infection from the periorbital structures. This is the most common route. Infections which may breach the orbital septum and extend in this way include the paranasal sinuses, especially ethmoid sinusitis, the face, the globe, the lacrimal sac and dental infection via intermediary maxillary sinusitis. Extension of preseptal cellulitis, particularly in young children in whom the o...
